Mission Statement

To provide an organized means for the maintenance and promotion of the best of Indian cultural values in the greater Sacramento region.

To plant the seeds of Vedanta in children and to teach Vedantic principles to families.

To provide a supportive peer group to those of Indian origin that will help families teach their children about their heritage and serve as a source for information, inspiration, role models, and friendship.

Classes

Balvihar calendar mirrors a school calander year and the classes are held on Sundays. Classes are conducted according to the age and grade levels, using methods such as arts and crafts, bhajans and shlokas recitation, languages, worldwide web resources & discussions and games. This is integrated with special activities and field trips to provide a fun Sunday morning schedule.

Enrollment

How can I check-out Bal Vihar? Find out more about it? See if it will work for my schedule and spur my children's interest? What if I found about Balvihar in the middle of the year?....these are some of the commonly asked questions by parents interested in Balvihar.

At the beginning of the Academic Year, on first day of classes, we have a Parent Orientation Day, where we introduce the teachers and the Program to the community. It will start at 10AM at the Country Day School Library and lasts about 30min. We go thru the program, our mission, and the registration process. After that you can also meet the volunteer teachers in the classrooms, and learn more about the curriculum and focus areas, for each age-group of students.

If you are not initially sure that Bal Vihar will work perfectly for you or your schedule, we encourage you to try it out without registering for 1-2 sessions, and then decide if you'd like to commit to it.

If you heard about Sacramento Bal Vihar after the start, you can still enroll anytime during the year. No need to wait for the next academic year. You can drop in on any Sunday at 10am at Country Day School join us for Morning Assembly, and drop in on the appropriate classes and speak with the teachers. Lastly, for Balvihar I class our guideline for minimum age for enrollment is about 5 yrs. You can speak with the teacher for specifics.

Volunteers

Balvihar is fully run by our parent volunteers and we are very greatful to them.

We encourage you to volunteer as your interests and time permits. It could be teaching a regular Balvihar class, a language class, be a back-up teacher, or one of the many other volunteering opportunities that help run the operations throughout the year, such as the annual day committee member, enrollment, etc.
